The World Masters Games (WMG) is widely considered the Olympics for mature-age athletes, providing a global platform for sports lovers to shine. Held every four years and organized by the International Masters Games Association (IMGA), the WMG welcomes all participants aged 30 and over, regardless of physical condition. No national qualifiers or teams are required—just register as an individual. The event encourages participants to break free from age stereotypes and reignite their passion for life and confidence in themselves. It’s about pushing personal limits and celebrating sports without boundaries!

Record Participation Numbers Showcasing Taiwan's Athletic Spirit
The 11th Summer World Masters Games will be held in 2025 in Taipei and New Taipei City. Since the first event was held in Toronto, Canada in 1985, this global celebration of sport has traveled to Denmark, Australia, the U.S., Italy, and New Zealand. Since 2010, Winter Games have also been added to the roster.

Jointly hosted by Taipei and New Taipei City, the event has already drawn over 34,352 registered participants—around 25,000 domestic and nearly 10,000 international—making it one of the top three largest in WMG history. Competitors and their families, friends, and support teams from 138 countries will converge in Taiwan for this massive sporting festival.
Taiwan has been preparing since May 2021, working tirelessly for nearly four years. Now, it’s finally our time to shine. The Games offer a chance to compete with passionate athletes from around the globe, showcase Taiwan’s energetic sports culture, and build lasting international friendships through sweat and determination. This will be a historic milestone for Asian sports and a chance for the world to see Taiwan.

No Limits in Sports, No Limits in Life!
WMG is one of the largest multi-sport events in the world. The 2025 edition features 35 sports across land, sea, and indoor venues, tailored to meet the interests and abilities of diverse age groups and skill levels. Events include track and field, road races, swimming, badminton, tennis, cycling, judo, archery, rowing, table tennis, basketball, and volleyball, as well as culturally significant and emerging events like dragon boat racing, woodball, disc golf, and rock climbing.

Rock climbing, disc golf, and orienteering are also gaining traction among younger seniors. This event isn't just a test of physical prowess—it’s a celebration of life’s energy, where participants pursue their personal bests through friendship and competition.

The current roster includes a 95-year-old female swimmer in the 50m freestyle, and athletes over 80 racing in 100m sprints and half-marathons. The Games demonstrate that mature-age athletes can still achieve greatness at any stage of life.

While Taipei and New Taipei are the main hosts, events requiring specific geographic or facility conditions will also take place in Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Yilan, and Taichung—more than 50 venues in total. The World Masters Games 2025 is more than just a sports competition—it’s a cultural and historical experience. With thousands of international participants, Taipei and New Taipei are making the most of this opportunity by organizing parades, opening and closing ceremonies, and various cultural events. Athletes and visitors alike can explore Taiwan’s local customs and vibrant spirit, embracing the essence of “diversity, inclusion, and shared prosperity.”

Thousands of athletes will march through the city’s main avenues, creating a carnival-like atmosphere. The parade ends at the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall—join the festivities and cheer for the global athletes up close!

Themed “We share the same Sky,” the ceremony highlights global unity through sports. Closing Ceremony: Held at 7 PM on May 30 at the New Taipei City Art Museum, the theme is “We are the World,” a tribute to all participants for their dedication and efforts. The event aims to conclude with blessings and gratitude, hoping friends from around the globe will return home with energetic and fond memories of Taiwan. The outdoor venue reflects the bold spirit of sports and global unity, drawing a perfect conclusion to the Games.

Cultural Events: During the Games, the organizers have planned 68 cultural tours, ranging from heritage walks to nature adventures, across 10 diverse themes: “Local Industry Highlights, Time Travel Strolls, City Tours, Historical Reenactments, Nature Fun, Fitness for All, Local Beliefs, Art Performances, Folk Crafts, and Culinary Memories.” These allow participants to experience Taiwan’s vibrant and diverse culture beyond the competitions—making the sporting event a mini cultural journey through Taiwan.

Let the world see the urban scenery of Taiwan! Unlike traditional marathon routes that often start in the city and end up along riverside paths, the Road Race of the 2025 World Masters Games features a pure “Urban Half Marathon” route planned entirely within downtown Taipei. No riverside segments—just the thrill of running through the city center for a truly unique road racing experience.

The Road Race offers two distances: 10K and 21K. Runners will pass through the most iconic areas of Taipei. The half marathon route includes landmarks such as Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Taipei Dome, Taipei 101, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, the Presidential Office, Ximending, and the elevated section of Civic Boulevard. The finish line is set in front of Taipei City Hall—an opportunity to feel the city's rhythm and showcase the urban beauty and cultural charm of Taipei.
Take on the world: Though the registration fee is relatively high—NT$3,600 per person—you can sign up for up to three sports and seven events.
